B.C. artist Emily Carr?s watercolour painting entitled Kitseukla sold at an art auction in Calgary for a commendable sum this weekend ? but it wasn?t exactly the sale price auctioneers expected.

Sale organizers reportedly estimated the painting, which was completed in 1928 during a trip to Skeena River, would fetch a much higher price ? about $300,000. Instead, the winning bid, placed by an anonymous bidder, totaled $200,000.

Car first visited the region in 1912, then returned in 1928 to visit the coastal First Nations culture she immortalized on canvas.
